Super Metro Under Siege: NTSA Revokes License

Super Metro, a popular matatu SACCO, gets suspended from its operations. The National Transport and Safety Authority termed the SACCO’s business as non-compliant. As it is a norm, the transport sector features certain set of regulations and conditions to be obeyed.

NTSA released a statement on Thursday, explaining why the alleged Sacco should cease to function. The Super Metro failed to implement safety measures. Also, the company must protect the lives of its passengers and road users. Regula the Sacco Violated

NTSA report: “Members of the public are cautioned against boarding vehicles belonging to Super Metro Limited. The Traffic Department is required to impound vehicles belonging to the company found operating contrary to the suspension.”

NTSA further stated that out of 523 vehicles that belong to the Sacco, 15 of them had expired certificates. Furthermore, 171 had no speed governors, and 88 could not transmit data. Additionally, seven more lacked speed limiter vendor details.

In addition, talking of violations of NTSA rules, 109 vehicles exceeded the driving speed limit. The vehicles traveled at 80 kilometers per hour. Furthermore, the drivers employed by the Sacco never met the expected qualifications.

NTSA stated, “The company must present the 294 vehicles with various violations to the respective speed limiter vendors for compliance checks.” Also, the Authority emphasized that vehicles must undergo checks at the Likoni Motor Vehicle Inspections Centre.

Super Metro Driver to be Sacked

NTSA ordered immediate sacking of the drivers who do not meet qualifications. The Sacco’s staff is meant to receive signed contracts. This should include proof of compliance with labor laws. Additionally, a six-month record of staff payroll and the staff’s statutory deductions.

With this predicament, most customers have boycotted their transactions. Further, some users accuse the Sacco of failing to limit its gross misconduct. Super Metro is forced to align to the demands and orders stated by NTSA.
