Kenyan government spokesperson Isaac Mwaura alleges that unidentified individuals use social media platforms for military takeovers. TikTok stands to be the social media that helps to fabricate such crimes in Africa.
During an interview with NTV on Monday, April 7, the government spokesperson talked about the military coups. Isaac termed the activities a ‘silent psychological operation’ that is a Chinese-owned social media giant to encourage coups.
According to Isaac Mwaura, the involved individuals have the agenda to attack African presidents. The individuals are assigned the role of projecting presidents as corrupt and old. Furthermore, they, in turn, praise military leaders.
Isaac Mwaura said, “If you look at TikTok, there seems to be a very silent operation promoting the military takeover, and some people have criticized me in the past for claiming that there is external interference in how people tend to make their decisions.”
The spokesman added, “ There is a very deliberate effort; I don’t know where it is coming from, but there is a deliberate effort to indignify certain African leaders to make them look old and corrupt and promote others, especially those with military orientation, and we need to be very careful about that because maybe somebody somewhere is engineering coups around African countries.”
Atwoli’s idea supported by Isaac Mwaura
Isaac’s statement is issued two days after the Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary General Francis Atwoli made some vital deliberations. Atwoli called for regulations of social media platforms. Further, he warned that the platforms could catalyze violence and lead to conflicts as experienced in other African countries.
Also, Atwoli emphasized that President Ruto should emulate countries like China, which are regulating social media platforms. “Those on social media must stop propaganda. You must love this country; if you do not love it, investors will go away. You will begin fights and end up like Sudan and Congo,” he explained.
