Kenyan authorities carried out a successful operation in Kikuyu, Kiambu County, leading to the arrest of two individuals involved in bhang (cannabis) cultivation. Police identified the suspects as David Kinyanjui and his Burundian accomplice, Bien Neureux Kanyarushatsi. Officers raided their half-acre farm on Wednesday, March 18, 2025, after receiving a tip from a concerned resident.

The informant had noticed suspicious vegetation growing in the Kidifamaco Estate area and alerted the authorities. Responding swiftly, a multi-agency task force, including the police and National Government Administration Officers (NGAO), launched an investigation. Upon arrival, officers confirmed the presence of the illegal crop and proceeded with the arrests.

During the raid, law enforcement officers uprooted the cannabis plants while Kinyanjui and Kanyarushatsi sat inside a police vehicle. The team transported the confiscated plants to Kikuyu Police Station for further examination. The suspects remain in custody and will appear in court on March 19, 2025, to face drug-related charges.

Bhang Crackdown in Migori County Uncovers a Massive Drug Haul

In a separate operation, law enforcement officers in Isebania, Migori County, intercepted a major bhang shipment worth approximately KSh12.69 million. The operation, led by the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) of Isebania Police Station, began on Sunday, March 16. Acting on intelligence, officers raided a storage facility in Tarakwiti village and found 14 sacks of cannabis, weighing a total of 423 kilograms.

Authorities arrested 23-year-old Evelyn Bhoke in connection with the seized drugs. Investigators believe the consignment was intended for distribution across the country, fueling concerns over the rise in drug trafficking networks.
