3 People Die After an Accident Along Nairobi-Mombasa Highway

After an accident that happened on Thursday morning at around 5 am, 3 people are confirmed dead. Other passengers currently nurse fatal injuries. The grisly accident particularly occurred at the Man Eater area of Tsavo West in Taita Taveta County.

The 14-seater matatu collided with a truck heading in the opposite direction. According to witnesses, the matatu, full of passengers, lost control and rammed into the approaching truck headed to Mombasa.

After the accident, a rescue team helped in dispatching the victims from the wreckage and rushed them to Voi County Hospital. Taking a closer look at the photos and videos captured, the matatu got extensively damaged. A broken windscreen, mangled seats, broken windows, and deflated tires sum up the true scenario. Unfortunately, 3 people lost their lives.

Meanwhile, the lorry ended up damaged on its front side. Additionally, a footage shows rescuers retrieving bodies from the destroyed matatu. Minutes later, police officers from Voi arrived. The police officers cordoned off the scene, after which they towed the involved vehicles.

Accident at Waiyaki Way

Sadly, still in the same morning, another road accident happened in Westlands, Nairobi, along Waiyaki Way. This particular accident occurred at around 8 am, after the matatu heading to Kangemi lost control. The matatu collided with the private vehicle as both vehicles veered off the road and landed in a ditch.

Luckily, the present road users quickly rushed to the spot and helped the victims who got stuck inside the vehicles. The victims were later rushed to various hospitals.

Over the past three days, the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) urged Kenyan drivers to be more cautious. Furthermore, during this rainy season, weather hazards like flooding can create a riskier environment for transport.

According to the notice by NTSA on Monday, April 7, motorists need to drive within the stipulated speed limit. Motorists should take enough rest before they embark on their journey and work as well. Vehicles should be well serviced, and they should cease reckless driving.
